I saw a candle as I sat in an incumbent anxiety and loss of vigor

Then I saw Him in an increasing peace and movement somewhere

I saw wax composed of many ingredients – character

goodness, faithfulness, order, and love

Perfection in it’s consistency and potential

I saw the wick coming out of the wax

Smaller than all the other parts, more tangible, possible to know

The wick was once completely covered in and by the wax

No one would even comprehend the wick’s existence

if the wick hadn’t emerged out of the wax,

vulnerable to the elements that weren’t the ingredients of wax

But if the wick hadn’t emerged there wouldn’t have been a flame

sensible to the human

I saw the flame more mysterious, flowy, beautiful than all the rest

Somehow my finger could encounter the flame quickly and not be burned

I could feel the warmth of the flame; it comforted me

The true fire when I got closer convicted me

The flame was the only part of the candle that I could see moving and emitting clearly

The wax brought forth the wick, the wick the flame, and the flame the fragrance

The fragrance sensed by the human nose revealed the ingredients of the wax

And as the flame melted the wax with heat, more and more of the wick was revealed

The more the wick was revealed, the larger the flame, the more the candle was sensed

The Father brought forth the Son into the world, the Son the Holy Spirit, and the Holy Spirit the Presence of God

The Presence sensed revealed the character of the Father to the human

And as Jesus, the Son, was revealed by the Spirit,

the movement of God increased and so did its impact

Somehow I could see, looking at the real thing before my eyes,

the bright light standing out of the darkness that surrounded it

The darkness could not stay the same

Everything around the candle’s light, lit up

Somehow if I held the candle up to a structured wall, and kept my eyes on the wall,

the visible flame disappeared, and only a form of its light remained

Even though the flame still burned

The candle is all together lovely, wonderful, a pleasing aroma, good for the soul

But do not forget that the candle is powerful too

If the flame were simply to touch another,

that resembled the wick in some likeness,

covered in part by ingredients of the wax,

the flame and the glorious aroma would spread so far, so big

consuming anything that wasn’t like it

The one and only candle would make other candles in similar image

And those other candles would have to be deeply connected to the wax, touched by the flame directly, and exposed to the elements (not letting outside elements blow out their flame – Matthew 13)

in order to also emit light, warmth, and the truth of conviction

I saw a candle

And I thought of The Trinity

The candle could not be a candle without wax, a wick, and a flame

God could not be God without Father, Son, and Holy Spirit

And then my mom came up and showed me the Word, and then I painted

One response to “The Trinity”

  1. 22)
    The light of the body.-
    Literally,
    the lamp of the body.
    So in
    Proverbs 20:27
, “The spirit of man is the candle (or ‘lamp’) of the Lord”—that which, under the name of “conscience,” the “moral sense,” the “inner man” discerns spiritual realities, distinguishes right from wrong, gives the light by which we see our way. If this is “single,” if it discerns clearly, all is well. The “whole body,” the life of the man in all its complex variety, will be illumined by that light. The connection with what precedes lies on the surface. Singleness of intention will preserve us from the snare of having a double treasure, and therefore a divided heart.”

-the candle wick deep in the Lord/wax and far into the world has the biggest flame and aroma
